Sermon Text: Revelation 7:9-17
Picture a worship service where nobody glances at a watch. Nobody minds the sixth verse of the hymn. Nobody worries about music styles. Revelation 7 imagines exactly that: a multitude too large to count, robed alike, lost in praise. On All Saints Sunday, as we remember and give thanks for the members of our church family who died during the past year, we stand at the edge of that crowd and notice the hand reaching from the throne. Notice how tenderly it moves.
On All Saints Sunday we hold grief and gratitude together, trusting the vision of Revelation that a great multitude gathers around God's throne, where every tear is wiped away. In this service we also gather at the Communion Table, where the church on earth joins the whole communion of saints.
Accompanying scriptures are Psalm 34:1-10, 22 and Matthew 5:1-12.
