Adult Faith Formation at First Baptist

Faith doesn't stop forming when we grow up.

Some of the most important spiritual work of a lifetime happens in adulthood — in the middle of careers and caregiving, of loss and renewal, of questions that don't resolve easily and convictions that deepen slowly. At First Baptist DC, we believe adults need genuine community just as much as anyone else in the congregation.

Our adult ministry is built around the conviction that we are better together — that reading scripture alongside someone else, or sitting with a question in the company of honest friends, or simply showing up week after week to the same room with the same people, forms us in ways we cannot form ourselves alone.

Whether you're drawn to digging into the lectionary, exploring books that stretch your thinking, or connecting with a group that gathers online, there is a place for you here.

— Hebrews 10:24–25 | "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together."

Sunday Morning Groups

Faith formation at 10:00 am

Every Sunday at 10:00 am — before worship at 11:00 am — two adult small groups meet in the Community Building. Both are open to all, and both offer something distinct. Come find the one that fits where you are.

The Wonder Years

Sundays at 10:00 am · Community Building, Conference Room #4

The Wonder Years is one of FBCDC's beloved small groups — a community of adults who gather each Sunday morning to catch up with one another and explore books they're reading together. It is a space for honest conversation, genuine friendship, and the kind of slow, sustained formation that happens when you keep showing up with the same people over time.

For more information, contact Pastor Eric at eric@firstbaptistdc.org. All are welcome.

Tapestry

Sundays at 10:00 am · Community Building, Conference Room #1

Tapestry gathers each Sunday morning to dig into the lectionary — the morning sermon text and the other scripture readings appointed for the day. It is a group for those who want to come to worship having already sat with the texts, and for those who want to keep the conversation going after the benediction. Come ready to think, question, and connect the ancient with the immediate.

NEW TO FBCDC?

Every group welcomes newcomers

You don't need to know anyone to walk into one of these groups. You don't need to have the right answers or the right background. You just need to show up. Each of our adult groups has been shaped by years of people doing exactly that — arriving as strangers and leaving as something closer to family.

Not sure which group is right for you? Reach out to Pastor Eric at eric@firstbaptistdc.org — he'd be glad to help you find your place.
