As Organist-Choirmaster at First Baptist, Lon Schreiber draws from his enormous knowledge of church music to plan and prepare music for worship and direct the church choir. A gifted arranger and composer, his last name means writer in German and his organ compositions have been published by H.W. Gray, an affiliate of Warner Bros. Lon served National City Christian Church as Minister of Music for 40 years before being coaxed out of retirement to assume his current position.

He began college in Missouri in accounting, then changed his major to music and attended TCU (Fort Worth) and received his SMM at the School of Sacred Music at Union in New York City. He received an honorary Doctorate in music in 1981. Lon's vision for First Baptist is "to help take the worship to new levels of beauty and inspiration." He would like to get the word out, he says, "to hundreds in our neighborhood and in the metropolitan area that here at First Baptist is a caring community of Christians who are led in worship each week by a phenomenal pastor and staff." When not engulfed in music performance or composition, Dr. Schreiber enjoys travel and crossword puzzles and is single.
