Worship: Sundays at 11 a.m.
Our worship is deepened and enlarged by the extraordinary beauty of the sanctuary where we offer ourselves to God as a congregation.
In worship, we sing hymns to God accompanied by organ and choir, listen to Scripture readings from both the Old and New Testaments, pray for each other, our community and the world, and hear a message by our pastor. We celebrate Communion together on the first Sunday of each month.
Sunday Morning Small Groups
Small Groups for Adults
First Baptist Church offers several good options for people who want to connect with God and others through conversations about Scripture, faith-inspiring books, current events, etc. Current Sunday morning adult groups include:
@ 9:45am – Dawson Room (near the O Street entrance Rms 103-105)
During Lent, the young adult group will discuss James Cone's foundational book about racism and the gospel, "The Cross and the Lynching Tree". This series loosely parallels Pastor Julie's Lenten sermon series on Jesus' dying words from the cross. Bible study begins every Sunday at 9:45am in the Dawson Room (room 103/105, near the O Street entrance). Contact pastor Alyssa for more information: email@example.com. All are welcome.
@ 9:45am – Room 217, Church Library on the 2nd Floor- Teacher: Dennis Lambert
This intergenerational Bible study group uses a variety of study materials, some denominational and some reflective of FBC's ecumenical theological tradition. During Lent, the group is discussing "A Church for Rachel", written by former FBC pastor Charles Poole for "those who mourn, struggle, and wonder." We enjoy a free exchange of ideas in an atmosphere of friendship. One of our primary objectives is to find relevant scriptural approaches to life. All are welcome.
@ 9:45am on the basement floor in Meadows Room (take elevator in the O Street welcome area to "B" basement floor) - During Lent, the group is discussing James Cone's foundational book about racism and the gospel, "The Cross and the Lynching Tree". The series loosely parallels Pastor Julie's Lenten sermon series on Jesus' dying words from the cross. Facilitated by group members.
