Worship: Sundays at 11 a.m.
Our worship is deepened and enlarged by the extraordinary beauty of the sanctuary where we offer ourselves to God as a congregation.
In worship, we sing hymns to God accompanied by organ and choir, listen to Scripture readings from both the Old and New Testaments, pray for each other, our community and the world, and hear a message by our pastor. We celebrate Communion together on the first Sunday of each month.
Sunday Morning Small Groups
Small Groups for Adults
First Baptist Church offers several good options for people who want to connect with God and others through conversations about Scripture, faith-inspiring books, current events, etc. Current Sunday morning adult groups include:
@ 9:45am – Dawson Room (near the O Street entrance Rms 103-105)
Join FBC young adults as we study of the Book of Esther. Together we'll read through the book and talk about what we've read. All are welcome. (Not meeting on Nov. 24, 2018)
@ 9:45am – Room 217, Church Library on the 2nd Floor- Teacher: Dennis Lambert
This intergenerational Bible study group uses a variety of study materials, some denominational and some reflective of FBC's ecumenical theological tradition. Class discussions usually draw upon weekly reading assignments and related scriptural texts. We enjoy a free exchange of ideas in an atmosphere of friendship. One of our primary objectives is to find relevant scriptural approaches to life. All are welcome.
@ 9:30am in the 2nd floor Conference Room (take elevator in the O Street welcome area to 2nd floor) - Facilitated by group members
A group for all ages that practices the Christian spiritual discipline of contemplative prayer using the Centering Prayer method. Prayer is followed by discussion of a book dealing with prayer or other spiritual practices. If you are curious about connecting with God through prayer, silence, and spiritual discipline, give First Thing a try.
Crossroads (New as of September 2)
@ 9:45am on the basement floor in Meadows Room (take elevator in the O Street welcome area to "B" basement floor) - Facilitated by Charlie Reynolds and other group members.
Conversation focuses on Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, Life Together. Future studies will include Scripture and various other books and topics. Both in-reach and outreach are priorities for the group. We are exploring our relationships with people of differing faiths and learning about world religions. Charlie Reynolds, who recently facilitated our discussions on Islam, is our primary facilitator, assisted by other members of the group. Again, everyone is welcome!
